I have been surrounded by horses near enough my whole life - I grew up on a small farm and my father always used horses to help him plough the fields. It was my job to look after the horses when they were out working, and it was something that I absolutely enjoyed doing. In my opinion, there is nothing better than spending time with horses as they are best animals that you will find on this planet. Below I am going to give you some of my main reasons why I adore horses so much.
They Are Inspirational
Horses are stunning creatures - beauty is in the eye of the beholder is a common saying, but horses have been inspiring artists and poets for centuries. You can look through art from hundreds of years ago, and I guarantee that you will come across a painting with a beautiful horse in it. When I see horses galloping through a field, I cannot prevent myself from stopping whatever I am doing to watch them. To me, there is nothing quite as majestic in this world like a horse running at full speed. In my view, horses are living art forms that constantly remind us how wonderful nature is.
They Are Very Fun
When I was a child, some of the best times I had was when I was with my friends and horses. We used to spend a considerable amount of time at my dad’s barn, pretending that we were horses as well. Sometimes, we would take them out for a run and pretend to ourselves that we were getting chased by a huge enemy and had to outrun them to survive. Yeah, this sounds pretty silly to me now, but they are really fond childhood memories of mine. Horses definitely allow children to be children.
Another thing that I find really fun to do is to play at online casinos. I do not mind table games such as poker, roulette, blackjack, and craps, but my favourite type of games are slot games, especially those that come with a horse theme. If you have read our page about the best horses for beginners, then you will already know that Mr. Bronkwurst won a considerable sum of money playing a horse-themed slot. I have not been as lucky as him, but I play solely for entertainment purposes really – if I win some money, well I consider that to be the icing on the cake.
The Help You Relax and Improve Mental Health
I have a few horses of my own because I love horse riding, but this not the sole reason as to why I own horses. Even if I did not ride regularly, I am certain that I would still have some pet horses as they are just great creatures to be around. My horses help relax me and they actually seem to know when I am feeling a bit down. When I was a child, horses were there for me to have fun with while playing with my friends, but as an adult they are like a tranquiliser that can help to decrease my blood pressure and improve my mood.
The Offer a Sense of Power and Freedom
Horses allow us to free ourselves from any limitations that our bodies impose on us. Are you frail and weak? Are you dumpy and short? Jump on a horse, and you will be freed from your weaknesses. When I was in my early twenties, I did voluntary work for a horse-riding therapy school, and it was there where I saw the power that horses possess firsthand. We would push wheelchair bound people to the barn and carefully set them on a horse’s back, and then their muscles which do not work when in the wheelchair would start to move with the horse’s movement. Kids who had spent a considerable portion of their lives using a wheelchair could move more while on a horse. Yes, I know it is only temporary, but it was still a moving (no pun intended) thing to see.
They Will Teach You Things You Did Not Know about Yourself
A horse will see you for who you really are - they do not care if you are the President of the US or a cleaner at a school. When you build a relationship with a horse, you will soon realise that you will have to put your own ego to the side for a bit. You have to earn your horse’s respect, and you always have to be honest with yourself as well as your horse.
They Give Friendship between Species
Those who have ever had friendships with a horse will fully understand what I mean here. I’ve had one of my horses for nearly two decades now, and we share a really strong bond. When my mother passed away, she was there to comfort me, and I am not sure what I would have done without her if I am being honest. We have spent a lot of hours together and seeing how excited she gets when she sees me each morning is something that I will never get bored of seeing.
